Macedonians-Who They Are?

This page is dedicated to the Macedonian civilization.
Those people who are not Macedonians have problems to define what constitutes “Macedonia” presents something of an historical and political problem. We will try to answer all the obscure questions posed by those who aren't Macedonians and all those who have the wrong idea about us. We will try to answer all questions to be consistent research of modern science, of course there are other sources, such as "history" and the Bible, etc and slowly to form a mosaic called Macedonia and Macedonians.

What is a nation?
A nation is a large group of people with strong bonds of identity - an imagined community.
People who are of the same origin and who speak the same words and who live and make friends of each other, who have the same customs and songs and entertainment are what we call a nation, and the place where that people lives is called the people’s country.
Thus the Macedonians also are a nation and the place which is theirs is called Macedonia.

Macedonians do not speak the same words with so called Greeks and Shqiptars aka Albanians; they don`t have same customs and songs and entertainment; they never been friends of each other; Macedonia (also Europe) never was their country.

Bio-geographical mapping of Macedonian populations
Macedonians in RM appear to be closely related to others Macedonian populations; Macedonians in Greece, Albania, Kosovo, Bulgaria..

Evaluating the evidence for the bio-geographical affinity of Macedonians
The bio-geographical affinities of the Macedonians are unique compared with neighboring Balkan populations.

Haplogroups analyses
The most common Y haplogroups in Macedonians are I;  G; R1a; R1b; E; J.

The most common Y haplogroups in Macedonians dominate the area between the Atlantic Ocean and Nakhodka and Southernmost tip of Africa.
This multi-origin of the Macedonians may be explained by the ....; by the northern expansion of lactose persistence tribes (link),

Ancient DNA analyses
The (Y dna I) Macedonians emerged from Mesolithic people residing in the "Europe", prior to the end of the LGM.

Therefore, the exact ancestry of Macedonians cannot be properly deciphered without ancient DNA from the potential ancestral populations, currently (almost) unavailable.

Reconstruction of Macedonian population history
When combined with genetics, OMIM, anthropological, archaeological, but no to fake historical records, artifacts etc, today scientific findings allow a cautious reconstruction of certain aspects of Macedonian population history.

It is unclear when these Macedonians migrated to the "Europe", as there have been several migrations of Macedonian people into the region throughout the ....., and only some of these have left a detectable DNA hallmark.

Conclusions
Macedonians () belong to the "older" European () and Mediterranean substratum ().

So called Greeks, Shqiptars aka Albanians, Bulgarians are not related with geographically close Macedonians, they do not belong to the "older" European, nor Mediterranean substratum.

So called Greeks and Shqiptars aka Albanians were found to have a substantial relatedness to sub-Saharan (Ethiopian) people, which separate them from other European and Mediterranean groups.

Population genetic relationships between Mediterranean populations determined by gene distribution and a historic perspective

The main part of their genetic pool came after the Northward Saharan migration, when hyper-arid conditions were established in Sahara (before 6000 bc).

Macedonians

About 45 kya, during the last ice age, modern humans began arriving in what we now call Europe (Nigst 2014); they were part of a single founding population that didn’t significantly interbreed with other human populations; but some of them bumped into Neanderthals. (Fu 2015)

Macedonians emerged from (Y dna hg I) tribes residing in the Europe, prior to the end of the LGM period. (Posth 2016; Fu 2016)

When the glaciers melted, about 16 kya, Paleolithic people were replaced by anatomically () and genetically speaking, descendants of the pre LGM Macedonian (Balkan) population ().

Mesolithic hunter-gatherers were present in Macedonia region just before the first appearance of Neolithic pottery.21

Macedonia's first (and later) farmers almost replaced European and Russian steppes Stone-Age hunter-gatherer forerunners. (Paschou 2014)

The Sea of Marmara, Sahara and sub-Sahara were other important sources of human reservoirs present during Neolithic.

Then, the second wave of Neolithic migration caused a much stronger impact on the genetic make-up of the European and Yamnaya populations.

A new culture, created by Macedonians appeared in Sardinia ~ 4.000 bc. (Dyson 2007)
Megalithic builders in France were of Macedonian (Balkan origin).

Around 3200 bc, the culture (Watrous 1982), genes of Macedonians migrated, to the Aegean Sea and to Crete. Macedonians (not Sub Saharan and sick people) were the origin of the Minoan civilization.

Kurgan people were unable to digest raw milk. (Mathieson 2015)
These people had mysteriously vanished.
Controversially, some people were suggested to have also brought Indo-European languages into Europe. It`s sounds like the researchers (as Haak 2015 and others) had a predetermined idea of what they wanted to find.

The language of the aboriginal Macedonians become a root ....and influenced the various Celtic, Italic and Germanic dialects.

There were no other Indo-European invasions, nor Trojan War, nor Dark Age in Mediterranean.

The next known people to live in Macedonia were the Macedonians (aka alleged Brygians / Pelasgians). They descended from (old) Macedonian population.

Dispersed in the mayor parts of the Mediterranean, the Balkans, Asia Minor and Italy, the Macedonians (aka Pelasgians, Brygians, Phrygians, Paeonians etc) have left many traces of their existence from the Early Bronze Age to the classical period, which could not be avoided.

During the later Iron Age, Macedonian Peninsula received an influx of Africans. (Hajjej 2011)
What is certain is that when the dark-skinned, Sub Saharan African unnamed tribes met the Macedonians, it was probably like two alien groups meeting on Star Trek. (Villena 2001)
What happened to these African people?

19th century historians fabricated (aka focused) all the culture in what is now Greece ignoring all the other Mediterranean cultures present in the area long before the classical African (aka Greek) one ().

Gauls never arrived in Macedonia, nor in Balkan, nor in Turkey.
Romans don’t left their genetic traces in Macedonia, nor in the Middle East.
Christianity came early to Macedonia, with Paul, Lydia in the first century AD.
Did you have vision-which language do they speak?

The existence of Jewish people in Macedonia dates back to ancient times.

Slavs have a comparatively large proportion of ancestry drawn from a relatively small population. Where did they (ancestors) come from?
Anyway, ...

The Macedonian was the second longest reigning dynasty in The Roman Empire history.

During “the medieval historical” period, Ethnic Macedonia has been unsuccessfully “settled” by diverse (created by medieval ink) populations including Slavs, Bulgarians, Serbs and Romans (fake Byzantines).

It wasn’t until about 1 kya that lactose tolerance swept through Europe. Still this mutation could have come from Balkans.

Recent Sub-Saharan gene flow detected in Europe entered with North African gene flow. (Botigué 2013)
The Y chromosome haplogroups E and J distributions (found in non European Greeks and Shqiptars) are in agreement with recent Sub-Saharan and North African gene flow at that period.

As nationalistic feelings began to surface across the Balkans in the nineteenth century, the peoples of Macedonia instigated a series of uprisings against Ottoman rule. The desire was for each people to have its own nation-state.

The result of the uprisings, wars of independence, two Balkan Wars, and World War I was the division of Ethnic Macedonia between Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, and Serbia.
Each country undertook an ethnic cleansing of those “Macedonians” not suitable to its particular nation-state.

Some people believed that, during World War II, Tito offered the Macedonians autonomy in his new political creation. In 1991, the Socialist Republic of Macedonia proclaimed its independence.

Macedonian Language

Language is crucial to understanding Europe's past. Today languages can be spread by education and modern communications. In prehistory the only way languages could spread was by migration of people. So a complete language replacement in a particular region signifies a population change.

Recent shared ancestry in modern Europeans is ubiquitous, and clearly shows the impact of (countless) both small-scale migration and large unknown and known historical events. (Ralph 2012)

Mesolithic

Paleolithic

The new findings do not provide any evidence of how the people first came to Europe, but it is most likely that the first settlers arrived from the east, maybe along the Danube corridor. (Benazzi 2011Higham 2011)

In the Republic of Macedonia, the remains from the Paleolithic period (although rare) were found. The earliest dates were ranging from 100.000 to 20.000 BC.
Typical stone tools have been found in village Kristiforovo-Bitola; cave "Makarovec" near the village Oraovec-Veles; cave "Great Pest" near the village Zdunje-Brod.
It is believed that these stone tools have been made by Human ancestors of the genus Homo sapiens sapiens and some may been made by genus Homo sapiens neanderthalensis (Neanderthal man).
In both cases, they were of the same genus that almost completely reached the biological level of the modern Human.

The survey performed in some of the caves in Macedonia confirms existence of small communities from all Paleolithic phases, some of which are dated in the upper Paleolithic according to the material (Кузман 1995; Шаламанов– Коробар 2008).

In Aegean Part of Macedonia and south greece, remains of human activities dating from the Middle and early Upper Palaeolithic can be found in all kinds of topographic environments: coasts, plains, inner basins as well as hills and low mountains. Hills and mountains seem to be favored during the Upper Palaeolithic, but alluvial basins and high mountains are seemingly progressively abandoned (Rolland 1985, 1988). It points to a possible continuance of these settlements in the Mesolithic. (Naumov; Perles 2004)

During this period, the region of Macedonia had numerous forests, prairies, lakes and swamps, rich in flora and fauna. It provided a condition for hunting, fishing and gathering of wild plants, and thus the existence of this ancient people. (Causidis-Чаусидис)

The Twilight Zone

Historic genomics

History is a largely subjective area

Sub Saharan origin of Greeks

The Balkan region includes human populations with high level of Y STR diversity and with a quite similar genetic structure. It is clear that the observed populations from Balkan do not have a pronounced differentiation of Y STR and HLA genes population structure.

Origin of the so-called greeks
Furthermore, geneticist found that the so called Greeks are not related to the other Mediterranean populations.
In addition, sub-Saharan and other Africans were compared with all available Mediterranean groups in order to solve the question of the unique “Greek” genetic profile.

Y Haplogroup E is a signature of “African gene”; this is confirmed in research studies over the last years.

The ethnogenesis of the so-called greeks
Why did people think that "the Greeks" were so special?
Mostly, because their language is so special. It is non-Indo-European.

Thracian Turks descend from (ancient) local people who converted to Islam when the Ottoman Empire controlled the region. (Rodewald 2012)

Legendary pharaoh Tutankhamen was probably killed by the genetic blood disorder sickle cell disease. link

It is incredible that a people as "intelligent as the Greeks" should have forgotten how to read and write once they had learned how to do so.
Africans across the sea were not mentioned by Darius.

Ancient DNA from the Europe showed without doubt that the so called Greeks were not descended from Old Europeans.

The coming of the so-called greeks to Macedonian Peninsula

The ancient Egyptians were capable for achievements in engineering and everything.

Anyway, when Ethiopians, Sub Saharans and West Africans came trooping out of Africa ~2600 (?) years ago, they would have looked very different from their European and Macedonian cousins.
What is certain is that when the dark-skinned, Ethiopians, Sub Saharans and West Africans met the Macedonians, it was probably like two alien groups meeting on Star Trek.

The short history of "(ANCIENT) greece"
No doubt, these people were deeply influenced by the Macedonians (non-Greek people) they had meet, and from them these people learned skills such as stone masonry, shipbuilding, navigation, the cultivation of the olive and certain other crops, and the worship of certain female deities (with associated, new spiritual concepts).

Ancient Africans that settled where now southern Greece is didn't invent everything - Authors from Medieval and Romantic times did.

Macedonians were hated by the unnamed tribes ever since first moment.
They (Macedonians) were proud of their Macedonian nationality and way of life, and looked down upon the Unnamed Sub Saharan African/Levantine population and with contempt.

Malaria became a problem in Macedonia. This situation in Balkan does not bode well.

That is why the neighboring populations remain relatively sickle cell free. (Penman 2012)

No one likes to believe that "the Greek" race has passed from the earth,  and, believing what they like to believe, scholars have rejected the fact(s) without any particular attempt to rebut its points.
Why is it so?

So called greeks after CHAERONEA (338 bc)
The modern "Greeks" would love to know they're descended from the surviving "ancient Greeks".
But since Lamian Wars, so called Greece has been invaded and occupied so many times I'm not sure we're going to get the answer they want.

DNA extracted from the remains of Old European individuals reveals that they had genetically zero in common with modern Greeks.

In 168 BC and 146 BC the Roman Empire conquered Macedonia and Achaia (not Greece) respectively.

Around 1400 ad Vergerius, a teacher at Florence, although he was not a geneticist, wrote that there was a "old racial rivalry between the Africans and Macedonians".
He became known as Arrianus, another fabrication that comes from “Renaissance”.

(Achaia) was a province during Ottoman times. For this reason it is also incorrect to say that “Greece” was occupied by the Turks for 400 years. There was no "Greece" to occupy.

That is why hundred years of research have been wasted trying to find the presence of the unnamed Africans in Levant, Anatolia, Balkan, Crete.
But they didn't exist; so called historical migrations were invented by Renaissance authors.

The look on their faces testifies about them. It was common knowledge in medieval times that the so called Greeks were a spin-off of ancient and most revered Ethiopians.
The high frequency of Y dna hg E-M78 (a derivative of E) in Greece suggests the presence of a substantive African population in that region during historical time periods.

Alexander the Macedonian was described as having a "ruddy" complexion. That implies a distinctly different look from modern-day Greeks.

Ethnogenesis of the Shqiptars

The Shqiptar source populations were at least in part already differentiated before their forced migration to Macedonian Peninsula and Italy.

DNA extracted from the Shqiptars (aka Albanians) reveals that they had, genetically speaking, zero in common with Old European individuals.
Illyrians were coastal people, while Shqiptars (aka Albanians) are mountainous since they lack maritime vocabulary.

The heritage of Ottoman Islam in the Macedonian Peninsula

The coming of the Shqiptars to Macedonian Peninsula and Italy

Albanian speaking populations
The newly arriving Shqiptars groups did not enter an unpopulated space.

This low percentage of these haplogroups in the Shqiptar populations produces some doubts.

The Albanais (in French) are first mentioned in 1612 ad, the word Albanians (in English) (both words means Mountaineers) is known from more recent times.
